The top two books were unchanged from May’s Top Titles: Yesteryear by Caro Claire Burke and Allen Levi’s Theo of Golden. Yesteryear follows a tradwife influencer who wakes up in 1855. Theo of Golden centers on a mysterious old man who gives strangers their own portraits. At number three is Kathryn Stockett’s The Calamity Club, her first novel since 2009’s The Help.
June’s releases included some well-known authors. Ann Patchett’s Whistler, her tenth novel, opens at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where a middle-aged woman reconnects with the former stepfather she hasn’t seen since she was nine. Nora Roberts’ standalone The Final Target follows an author who flees to a small Oregon town to escape an obsessed fan. Matt Haig’s The Midnight Train, set in the world of his bestselling The Midnight Library, sends a man on a magical train back through the moments of his life. And Maggie O’Farrell’s Land, her first novel since Hamnet and The Marriage Portrait, unfolds in 1865 Ireland among surveyors mapping the countryside after the Great Hunger.
“Screen tie-ins” continue to be strong this month. (See From Screen to Shelf: How Movies and TV Shows Drive Library Patron Interest.) Andy Weir’s Project Hail Mary followed the Ryan Gosling film, now out of theaters. Shelby Van Pelt’s Remarkably Bright Creatures has a Netflix adaptation—with Sally Field, Lewis Pullman, and Alfred Molina voicing Marcellus the octopus—published in May. And Elle Kennedy’s The Deal appears as Prime Video’s Off Campus, a college romance already renewed for a second season.
